About Pam Hourihan

I am a Person Centred BACP Accredited Counsellor and a qualified Supervisor to trained and trainee counsellors.

My experience comes from working for agencies specialising in areas such as womens issues, mental health, young people and disability issues, as well as from my Private Practice. I also see individuals who are referred to me via Occupational Health departments and I am an Affiliate Counsellor to several Employee Assistance Providers.

I am employed as a Group Supervisor at the Harrow Womens' Centre and at Harrow Carers Support; I supervise Counsellors in training from various Colleges/Universities and I am also an Approved Supervisor to students attending the Foundation Degree course in Counselling at Harrow College.

Some of the areas I have working experience and/or training in are shown below:

sexuality   self harm   life changing events/decisions
relationship issues   bereavement   adults who have experienced abuse
self esteem   parental issues   changing moods/depression
womens issues   work related issues   parent & child (14yrs+)
anxiety/stress/anger   feeling low

as well as general life issues which can affect us all at one time or another.

I hold a personal interest in intuition and spirituality and I also have a growing interest (and some training) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

I see clients for counselling on either a time limited or long term basis. My aim is to help you experience growth and self understanding in a positive and fulfilling way. I also believe that adults who have suffered abusive experiences can move forward in counselling in a positive and gentle way from being 'survivors' to becoming 'thrivers'.

My style of Supervision to trainee and qualified Counsellors is collaborative - one in which I strive to facilitate a supportive and encouraging environment, in which I offer you open mindedness and flexibility.

I aim to provide a safe and confidential service which is ethical, professional and effective. I remain committed to working in a way which trusts each individual; client or supervisee, to know what works best for them.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am subject to their complaints procedure. I hold up to date Indemnity Insurance along with a current CRB certificate.
